ABOUT US
At Coletivo Ilê Capoeira, we celebrate the vibrant art of capoeira as a transformative force for connection, growth, and empowerment. Under the leadership of Contramestra Água-viva and Mestra Colibri, and grounded in the values of respect, diversity, and inclusion, our coletivo fosters a welcoming environment where people from all backgrounds can thrive.
We seek to preserve the rich traditions of Capoeira and Brazilian popular culture while inspiring a global community through learning, resilience, and humility.

Can I observe a class?
Quiet observers are always welcome.
It is best to contact us to let us know you are coming so we can let you know of the best class to watch.
I'm not in the best shape. Will I still be able to play Capoeira?
Yes, we can scale the class for any level. You will need to be prepared for a workout and to be sore for at least the first few weeks.
What can I expect in my firsT class?
Our Fundamentals classes are for brand new students. In this small group class you will learn the basics with little pressure in a safe and welcoming environment. Our instructors will meet you at your level to make sure you are challenged but not overwhelmed.
What should I wear and bring?
Please wear comfortable clothing (no shorts). We train in bare feet but you can also wear light shoes if you prefer. We suggest bringing a water bottle.
